Writing

Here's just some miscellaneous pieces of writing I've done. Some from a while ago, some pieces I've just decided to write.

Some of my various quotes:

"A poem is a puzzle wrapped around words. When you're full of a strong emotion, and want to lock it away, yet share it with the world, a poem is a locked safe and you're the only key. Releasing the fire in a way only you'll understand."

"The girl on top of the world took a wrong turn and slipped."

"With all my impulsive planning and obsessive organization, life is still left utterly unpredictable."

"I like filling my realities with daydreams. It helps bring on the magic."

Here's a poem I wrote about Annie Sullivan for a project. Many give such praise to the blind and deaf, Helen Keller for all her accomplishments, but I think that the real credit for giving Keller a new beginning goes to Miss Sullivan. She taught language, and the meaning of words to a wild, spoiled, and clever little girl. She never gave up on her main goal--not just to discipline, but to teach. I was forever taken by her amazing persistence, ever since I stumbled upon her story years ago. This is a tribute to Annie Sullivan, a true miracle worker.

Annie Sullivan

Swollen eyes full of fire
Strong arms to discipline
Up all night, she did not tire
Hours passed without a win.

As grim memories of the past
Grew near to haunt
The darkness did not last
For she sought a task she came to want.

Her effort seemed hopeless
But she did pull through
She fought the stress
New ideas came to view.

She knew what it meant
To be lost and confused
So she taught through torment
Until the girl improved.

Discipline itself would not do
For the girl, no more than a pet
Should learn language, too.
Through all her teachings
She taught through strife
That words have meanings
And language is life.

The girl tested her temper
And spilled water with a smirk
Then was sent to fill the pitcher
She prayed it would work.

The pump unlocked the girl’s sight
Though her eyes could not see
A realization came to light
She found the door to set her free.

She saw words for what they are
And soon became sure
That Annie was there from the start
And would be forever known as, Teacher.
